Early socialization and proper training is the key to good behavior and although earlier is better, it is never to late to start. If you purchase a puppy from a breeder make sure the puppies were raised in the house and well handled, not left in a garage, barn or out out in a kennel. By the time our puppies leave us, at 10 -12 weeks of age, they know about crates, housebreaking is started, can walk on a lead, stand still for exam and are socialized with adults, children, cats and other dogs. A well trained dog is an "ambassador " of the breed, so it is YOUR responsibility to get a jump on good training and socialization from day one.

How do I do that, you ask?

I always recommend puppy kindergarten classes but the problem is, we don't want our puppies given rabies shots until they are past 6 months of age and most training classes what all the shots given before you can enroll your dog. So that leaves you with this dilemma - do I risk over vaccination and potential loss of my puppy to vaccinosis, or do I train and socialize this puppy myself at home.
