What is the Blackwatch Feed Program?

The Blackwatch Feed Programs have been used by breeders and owners for the past 30 years with great success. It is based in a Holistic kibble, with a raw component, and 4 daily supplements I call the CORE 4, that literally fill in the holes of your pet's diet, and provide the living enzyme components that are missing in all commercial foods. I will also provide info for the pet owners how how they can incorporate the CORE 4 into their own human daily vitamin programs. (see below).

Why is this important?.. To take the load off the pancreas which provides digestive enzymes. We are all born with only a certain amount of digestive enzymes and the more processed our food is, (dead foods) the sooner we wear out our pancreas, age quicker and develope disease. A good example of this is the abundance of diabetes in pets and humans in this country. Processed food lacking important dietary enzymes are at the core of this problem.

So the CORE 4 Program assists the body by providing important dietary and digestive enzymes back in the diet, which takes wear and tear off the body, that in turn will slow the deterioration of the body, provide a longer life span with less disease!

The reality is, there is no 100% complete dog/cat commercial food on the market, there are only minimum AAFCO standards for nutrients. Note: This year - 2010 - I lost two of my old Great Danes to natural causes. In almost 40 years in this breed, I have held in my arms 34 Great Danes as they were put to sleep. My first Great Dane I lost to Bloat and I have had two elderly dogs with disc problems that had to be euthanized over the years. I have had one DCM dog. I can honestly say not one of these dogs died of cancer or a serious illness. Yes, genetics plays a roll in longevity and life can't be guaranteed, but through out the years as my feed programs developed there was a direct parallel between the health of my dogs and their longevity. I am not the only breeder that has experienced this. When I started in the breed a 5-6 year old dog was very old!. The vast majority of my dogs were all old dogs (9-14) when they expired. They reached the end of their life and the decision was made to let them go because their quality of life was severely compromised. I honestly believe the reason for such longevity (several different lines) had to do with their diets. It's been over 30 years since I wrote my first article on Probiotics - it was controversial to say the least. My goal is to continue to find ways to help improve the quality of our pet's lives through the study of Nutrigenomics - how food effects genes. It is the future for our pets (and for ourselves).

CONTENTS: THE CORE 4 KIT ?

PROBIOTICS - a blend of 6 beneficial bacteria plus 2 that are micro-encapsulated so they release in the lower digestive tract and not be killed off by stomach acid. DIGESTIVE ENZYMES - Digestive enzymes are often found in a combination probiotic product. There are many enzymes that help to break down the food for better digestion. The 4 that are of most importance are amylase (carbohydrates such as potato and grains) protease (protein), lipase (fats) and cellulase for fiber. Multiple digestive enzyme blends are beneficial in the destruction of fungi in the gut (protease and cellulase). The are critical in getting the most nutrition out of the foods you are feeding; kibble, raw, dehydrated, homemade, grain free, and they help take the load of the pancreas, which helps preserve the body and can help prevent diabetes.

DIETARY ENZYMES - these enzymes are the kind people and dog food companies don't even recognize, but are critical for their anti-aging properties. They come from a variety of sprouted foods (barley, wheat, soy, corn) and have the most living enzymatic activity of any food. Using dietary enzymes put the "living component" back into a processed dog food, dehydrated and raw that has been stored and homemade cooked foods. Dietary enzymes have strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties and they detoxify the body at a cellular level, which speeds any healing and repair. A Note About Enzymes

There are 3 types of enzymes I will address in this CORE 4 article so you understand their jobs and their relationship to totally wellness.

Metabolic Enzymes: are produced in the body and they are required for growth, new cells, repair and maintenance of tissues and organs. Without a good diet the body can't make enough of these for wellness.

Digestive Enzymes: are produced in the body and break down food to increase the absorption and deliver of these nutrients to the body. They are secreted from the pancreas to the stomach and small intestine and specific to breaking down and synthesizing protein, fats, carbohydrates and fiber. These 4 enzymes are: protease, amylase, lipase, cellulase.

Dietary Enzymes: (also known as plant enzymes) are the only enzymes produced outside the body and found in the raw foods. The best source of dietary enzymes come from sprouted foods such as sprouted, soy, wheat, corn, barley, beans, legumes etc. It is the first sprout grown up from the seed and containes the "spark of life" that detoxifies the body at a cellular level.
